Bruce Banner is a brilliant scientist with seven PhDs who also happens to be one of the world’s greatest experts in nuclear physics. When he gets angry he turns green and his body changes shape and size.
In the comics, he has several alter egos that vary in appearance and personality. For example, he is a ruthless warrior (World-Breaker), a self-hating protector and a genius scientist in his own right (Doc Green). He can be a gangster or a childlike monster and has even been a superhero (the Incredible Hulk).
The first Hulk movie was released five years ago and it did not do that well. Despite its huge box office opening and massive worldwide receipts, it wasn’t a hit with critics and wasn’t embraced by fans. Now Marvel and Universal have given the franchise another shot, this time with a better script, a much more realistic look to the Hulk and some new twists on an old favorite character.
As the Incredible Hulk, Mark Ruffalo plays a radically different version of the hero. He’s less intense and more socially awkward than the previous actor, but he does get across the character’s brilliance.
He is a man who struggles to control his anger and his transformations into the Hulk are caused by this emotion, not by a lack of strength. He can be peaceful and gentle when he’s not feeling his emotions, but his anger will eventually erupt and the Hulk will grow in size and power.
After accidentally exposing himself to gamma radiation while saving Rick Jones during a test, Bruce Banner transforms into the Hulk. He is a rage-fueled super hero who is able to use his abilities to fight crime and protect the innocent.
Having escaped from the United States to Brazil, Bruce is trying to find a way to stop his transformations. He reunites with Betty Ross, the daughter of General Thaddeus Ross, and they try to get back to the US so that he can meet with a scientist who can help him cure his condition.
While the plot of this Hulk movie is pretty straight forward, it’s the characters that really make it a good film. It’s a fast paced chase movie that has some excellent action, some great effects and some amazing set pieces throughout the entire film.
The story starts with Bruce Banner in a lab working on a gamma radiation experiment. He’s a genius scientist who has expertise in many fields of science including biology, chemistry, physiology and nuclear physics.
In this lab, he meets with General Ross, whose father was part of the WWII super soldier program. Ross has a plan to create a weapon that can make humans immune to gamma radiation, but the experiment goes horribly wrong and Banner is transformed into the Hulk for the first time. He then escapes from the military and tries to get back to North America where he reunites with his girlfriend, Betty, in a bid to get a cure for his illness.
