Based upon the story of the same name, “The Incredible Hulk” follows the story of Hulk (Norman Rockwell), a Gamma bomb scientist who is afflicted with the Hulk’s unending energy blast. Forced to live underground, he constantly surfs the internet via a computer that has a web page detailing his adventures (which also features Dr. Curt Connor, who is played by Eric Bana). When the Hulk is captured and placed in a military prison, he suffers a number of medical issues, which include an increased heart rate, an uncontrollable appetite and the freezing of his flesh. However, he is soon freed when General Thunderbolt Ross releases a team of United States soldiers led by Pvt. Ross (Bryan Cranston) to capture the Hulk.

The movie begins with the military soldiers uncovering a mysterious and powerful captive, the Hulk (Norman Rockwell). When they bring the weakened Hulk into their custody, they discover that he has no means of moving or even defending himself against their intense telepathic abilities. The team is able to help the Hulk resist most of their attacks, but when The Hulk suddenly superheats all of them (including Ross), the authorities are quickly alerted and the Hulk is taken away to an undisclosed government facility. While in confinement, he is subjected to a battery of brain scans and tests which reveal the Hulk has a condition which results in the brain not responding to standard brain wave patterns; as a result, the Hulk has difficulty controlling his mental processes.

Once in the government facility, the Hulk is subjected to a variety of mental and physical tests including electro-psychological examinations, biological experiments (including the production of a new Chitauri cyst) and genetic engineering, all conducted in order to determine whether or not the unstable Hulk has any connection to Gamma Radiation. These tests all show that the Hulk is connected to Gamma Radiation, as evidenced by his heightened strength, enhanced healing abilities, accelerated tissue growth and the fact that he possesses a unique genetic make up which includes a strand of iridium placed at the center of his skull. While all this is going on, The Hulk is being kept hidden from the general public by operatives working for The Avengers. It is during one of these missions (known as “The Big Secret” in the UK), while The Hulk is being studied by The Avengers’ ally, The Fantastic Four, that The Hulk is exposed to Gamma radiation for the first time. Once Gamma Radiation is taken into consideration during the testing procedures, it is determined that the Hulk has a genetic abnormality that involves the brain not responding to standard brain wave patterns; in turn, the Hulk’s mental instability makes him experience mental confusion and, as a result, a split personality.

During the tests, The Hulk attacks several of The Avengers, forcing them to wear masks featuring a red Hulk head. In order to prove to the scientists what their tests reveal, The Fantastic Four call upon The U.S. military, asking them to send a Green Protester to investigate the site of the Gamma radiation exposure. When the U.S military sends its team, they are astonished by the sight of The Hulk. Realizing this is The Hulk, they are confused as to why he would suddenly attack them, but when The Hulk goes berserk and begins to attack the military, they realize The Hulk has a split personality – one that acts like The Hulk and the other which acts like Dr. Bruce Banner, who is placed inside a Gamma Generator to control the Hulk’s behavior.

The Hulk is put under observation while The Fantastic Four and The Antidermis are calling on by The U.S. military to stop The Hulk, who refuses to be taken back to America due to the mental trauma he has undergone. The Hulk attacks the Fantastic Four, but is defeated by Reed, who is placed inside an artificial human suit created from Gamma radiation to take control of the Hulk’s mind. Reed assumes control over The Hulk and uses his newly-acquired powers to either cure The Hulk or to force him to forget why he attacked the Fantastic Four. In order to escape, The Hulk has the Fantastic Four try to defeat him in a giant game of golf, but they fail.
