This DVD set contains the entire season one through five of the hit TV series of Incredible Hulk. It is a great collection for any fans of the series. This box set also contains the movie that was released as well, which is a good way to see this amazing show in high definition.
Academy Award nominee Edward Norton stars as scientist Bruce Banner, a man whose unbridled rage transforms him into the incredible green-skinned creature known as The Hulk. He spends his days scouring the world for a cure while on the run from the military honchos that created him, all the while battling another beast of pure aggression – The Abomination. The Incredible Hulk is a riveting, action-packed thriller, steeped in spectacular special effects and led by a powerful performance from Edward Norton.
Unlike its limp predecessor Ang Lee’s version, this movie doesn’t waste time worrying about big metaphysical quandries and instead trusts the actors to carry their characters. This approach pays off in spades as Norton and co-star Liv Tyler deliver a pair of unforgettable performances that capture the essence of these raging monsters.
The story itself is nothing groundbreaking, but it’s a lot of fun. It’s got plenty of thematic resonance with its direct comic book roots and the cast really hams it up in some incredibly entertaining scenes. The fight scenes are great, too. The special effects are a little dated in places, but the whole thing is just so much fun.
This DVD set features a full frame non-anamorphic 1.33:1 transfer, and the picture quality is excellent considering it’s nearly 30 years old. The show isn’t perfect, as some grain and aliasing is evident at times, but there are no significant problems. This DVD set is a must-have for anyone who is a fan of the television show or just wants to see Marvel’s most popular character in high definition.
As an added bonus, this DVD set includes a number of deleted scenes that give viewers insight into the film’s production process and some ideas about what might have been had it not gotten pulled at the last minute. While only a few of the scenes actually feature the Hulk, they all offer some interesting backstory about the character and his origins.
Lastly, there is an excellent featurette that looks at the entire process of building the Hulk. Several different models of the character are displayed, allowing viewers to compare and contrast the various design elements. The film’s producers also talk about how they designed the costume, how they conformed Edward Norton to his size, and how they made his hair a unique shade of green. This is a wonderful featurette that is both informative and exciting, and it alone makes this DVD worth the purchase price. This is a must-have for any fan of the Incredible Hulk!
