Incredible hulk ps3 is a game about smashing. Its about knocking down sky scrapers and tearing apart enemies in a huge destructible city. Its fun at first but can get boring quickly. The game has a few minigames and stat-based feats to keep it fresh but the story missions don’t have much variety. Even knocking down famous New York landmarks like Stark Tower or the Empire State Building loses its appeal after a while.
The game is based on the third movie of the same name and follows the story of Bruce Banner and his alter ego. The game begins with Banner relocating to New York to find a cure for his condition. He soon becomes involved with a group of soldiers working for a shadowy organization called the Enclave. He saves a kidnapped scientist and starts to go on some missions. He destroys a number of military strongholds, trashes a laboratory and even rescues a cyborg.
Throughout the game, players can upgrade their skills with various abilities. These include higher jumps, stronger throwing and more powerful special attacks. The game also has a run ability that makes it easier to evade enemies and avoid damage. The controls are simple to learn and the game has a good sense of physics. It can be satisfying to hurl a bus into a helicopter or use a ground slam to wipe out every enemy on a street.
The graphics in the game are not very impressive. The characters look generic and the backgrounds are flat. There is a lot of clipping as well. You will see objects and cars disappear right in front of your eyes. The game also has a tendency to crash during action scenes that require more processing power from the game.
As a fan of the movies and comics I was hoping for more from this game. It seems to have sucked the life out of the character and replaced it with a shallow mish mash of a storyline. Its a shame really because the potential was there.
A good Hulk game would have allowed players to smash through a giant city, battle gigantic enemies and enjoy some of the great comic-book moments that make the character so popular.
The game does have some of those moments but they are few and far between. The main problem is the lack of variety in gameplay. Most missions involve either attacking or running from one point to another. The story is not very engaging and there aren’t many different ways to attack the enemy.
There are some cool minigames and the ability to raze New York city but this is not enough to make the game worth purchasing. Its not terrible but there are better options out there. The only thing that might get you to buy the game is if you’re a fan of the film and want some of the movie’s cool action on your PS3. Then it might be worth checking out. Otherwise stay away.
