The Incredible Hulk has faced many villains during his history. Some of them have come and gone, but there are several who have remained constant. These villains all have one thing in common: they all are dedicated to stopping the Hulk. In addition to these recurring villains, there are several other antagonists from the Marvel Universe.
The Ringmaster was a very early Hulk villain who used hypnosis to enslave the Hulk and force him into service. The Hulk, however, broke free of the Ringmaster’s mind control and has been battling many heroes since. Other notable opponents include Mister Hyde, Spider-Man, and Daredevil.
Another great Hulk villain is Zzzax. This entity of pure energy appears in comic book images as golden electricity. Zzzax has battled the Hulk many times and is one of the most powerful villains in the Marvel Universe. He first appeared in the comics in Incredible Hulk #166 and was created by Herb Trimpe. He is capable of absorbing and channeling massive amounts of power, which can have devastating results.
The Harpy is another powerful villain from the Incredible Hulk universe. This human-bird hybrid was created by the M.O.D.O.K. program after Betty Ross was exposed to high doses of gamma radiation. His wings and talons are powerful, and he can shoot energy bolts from his claws. He was briefly the dominant villain in Incredible Hulk #168.
The U-Foes are some of the most dangerous Hulk villains. These villains can function as individual units and have come close to killing the Hulk multiple times. X-Ray channeled gamma negative rays to drain Hulk’s power, while Vector repelled flesh from Professor Hulk’s bones. While these villains have battled other heroes, they’ve plagued Banner the most.
Wendigo is another powerful Hulk villain. Embedded in Native American mythology, this beast is one of the most formidable foes Hulk has faced. His curse was transferred to Hulk, and the Hulk has had to deal with this fearful foe.
The Maestro first appeared in the comic book series The Incredible Hulk: Future Imperfect #1 in 1992. This Hulk is a Hulk from a future time line, with Banner’s intellect and merged green/gray Hulk body. He ruled the world with an iron fist, but rebels stole Dr. Doom’s time machine, and used it to travel back in time to recruit the Hulk.
The Absorbing Man, the Tyrannus, and the Skaar are other Hulk villains. Tyrannus has advanced knowledge of technology and is capable of controlling other characters’ minds. They also use their intelligence to develop new weapons. Wolverine, another Hulk villain, has razor-sharp claws, and is a powerful weapon maker.
Abomination is one of the first Hulk villains to appear in the comics. He was a former KGB agent who accidentally exposed himself to greater amounts of gamma radiation. Later, he used Bruce Banner’s suicide device to become an incredibly large monster. However, he still retains his mind, making him a formidable threat. The Abomination also represents a weakness in the Hulk’s evolution as a follower of other superheroes.
