The Incredible Hulk Lego Set Review

The Incredible Hulk lego set is a great addition to the Marvel Lego line. It contains some great minifigs, a fantastic Hulkbuster armour and one of the best mech suits that Lego has ever designed. The Hulkbuster suit is the crown jewel of this set, displaying a dark red and gold colour scheme and incorporating some fantastic sculpting. While it may not be the most accurate representation of the Mark 44 suit seen in Avengers: Age of Ultron, it is still a brilliant design that looks very close to the film’s version.

The front of the suit has a large arc reactor that features an orange light brick which passes through a trans-opalescent blue piece to replicate the glowing power source seen onscreen. The rear of the figure has two thrust repulsors which are also impressively detailed. Despite these strong points, the rest of the figure feels a bit lacking. While the legs have some interesting articulation, they are not quite as good as I would have liked. The arms and head are fixed in position which restricts playability. The hands are also pretty flat which is a shame as they could have been more useful in holding weapons or shields.

Bag 1 is entirely dedicated to building the prison that the Hulkbuster escapes from in the film. This is made up of a few longer bricks and some slope pieces that are repeated over and over again. I’d have liked to see some more angled bricks and a few more raised flaps for extra playability.

A small build of the prison door and some stud shooters are included in this bag too. These are a little on the small side but will be adequate for most kids’ purposes. Bag 2 contains the remaining parts which make up the main build of the Hulkbuster. This is a massive improvement on the previous version of this figure and is very accurate to the film’s version. It is a hugely fun build that is very satisfying to finish and makes for an excellent toy.

While the build is solid, I feel that this figure could have been improved with better leg printing and a more detailed face. The torso printing is very fine but the absence of leg and arm prints really limits this figure. There is also a little too much red on the body which detracts from the overall look of the figure.

All in all, this is a solid set and I would recommend it to any Marvel Lego fan. While it may not be the most accurate of representations of the Hulkbuster suit from the film, it is still a fantastic figure to have and is arguably the best mech design that Lego has ever created. The other figures in this set, particularly MODOK and Falcon, are also well built but suffer from the lack of leg printing that the other characters have. Overall, this is a must-have set for fans of the Marvel Lego line and is a worthy addition to the Avengers: Age of Ultron merch line.
