The Incredible Hulk PS2 Game Review

incredible hulk ps2

If you love destroying things, wreaking havoc and general sandbox fun you’ll love the Incredible Hulk ps2. The game is packed with a fully destructible New York City and enough raucous mayhem to satisfy even the most fanatical Smash fans.

The first thing you’ll notice is the fantastic graphics. Everything is well detailed without slowing down your system or unnecessarily drawing attention to itself. The characters and vehicles look good, and although there isn’t much variety in enemies, they are well animated and often provide a satisfying chuckle or awe when you beat them.

Moving on to the gameplay, the controls are tight and feel natural. The fact that you’re controlling a green walking tank of doom should be taken into account, and this is no easy feat, so don’t expect an arcade-style experience. Square is your light punch, Triangle is your heavy punch and Circle is grab, which allows you to pick up any object and smash it with a single button press or throw it by holding the control down. Pressing X makes Hulk jump, and holding it allows you to build up power to unleash a huge leap into the air. Landing on destructible objects damages them, and Hulk can grab and hold cars, buses, light poles, fire hydrants and anything else that isn’t too far away.

As well as the linear story missions there are plenty of challenges to get stuck into, ranging from seeing how fast you can run through a set course to kicking field goals with cars. They all add up to a good amount of fun, but as with any sandbox style game they can begin to feel a bit repetitive after awhile.

The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction is a decent sandbox game that suffers from the same problems as most games of this genre. It’s not a terrible game but there are many better options out there, especially on the PC.

Radical Entertainment knows what makes the Hulk great, and they have put this knowledge into action here. The game is fun to play, with plenty of sandbox destruction to keep players occupied for hours on end. The only problem with the game is that it eventually becomes a little stale, and that can be avoided with some cheat codes.

Developed by Radical Entertainment and published by Vivendi Universal Games, The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction was released in mid-’05 for the PS2, X-Box, and GameCube. The game follows the movie closely and is a solid action/sandbox title. There is a very strong movie tie-in, and the game is very well-acted. The game is very violent and a bit repetitive, but it still provides a lot of sandbox fun. The sandbox is expansive, and the draw distance is very high, making it easy to see across large areas of the map. The only downside is that the game’s story is extremely predictable and a bit boring. However, the game is well-worth a purchase for any comic book fan.
