As the name suggests, ” AMC Walking Away” is a movie based on the famous comic book character, the Incredible Hulk. The film version of this character was not intended to be a serious follow up to the successful Hulk graphic novel, but rather it was intended as a cheaper alternative to the much more expensive 2003 movie version. Directed by Tim Burton, the movie did not receive the kind of critical acclaim that some of Burton’s previous films had, but did manage to score a respectable amount of viewers.
The story begins with General Thunderbolt Ross ( Garner) commanding the US military forces in World War Hulk. Due to an experimental virus created by Gamma Orb which gives him the ability to create a small army of clones, Ross commandoes his sights on capturing the Hulk. But first, he must escape from a Siberian penal camp where he’s been held against his will. Once Ross arrives there, he quickly discovers the existence of Gamma Orb and the Hulk. Having captured the Hulk, Ross plans on using him for his own personal gain…but the Hulk has other ideas.
The movie follows Ross as he tries desperately to reason with the Hulk, but to no avail. He simply tells Ross that he has a cure for the Gamma Orb, but that it must be shared by the human race. With the Hulk seemingly indestructible, the humans accept his offer and the movie follows Ross and the Hulk as they battle through the various missions and adventures that occur.
Because of the limited number of screenplays adapted from the legendary comics, only a few of those were made into movies. Most of the best-known stories were written as short stories for the pulp magazine comics of the period. This means that most of the information we have about the character of the Incredible Hulk is either derived from the comic books or from various websites that document the character’s history. It should be noted, however, that even the most obscure portions of the history are often revealed in the form of short stories. This includes the various encounters that Ross had with the Hulk, whether they were friendly encounters or hostile encounters…and even how the Hulk transforms into the Green Monster.
For many fans of the Incredible Hulk, seeing the original TV show version is important. Those who enjoy re-watching the series with the original cast will surely enjoy the film adaptation. The film basically follows the same storyline as the TV show, but provides a much tighter script and excellent visual aesthetics. Due to the use of cutting footage, some viewers may find the film to be lacking in overall quality. However, those who prefer watching the TV show with the added bonus of excellent animation and special effects will greatly appreciate the film adaptation.
Regardless of which version one watches, the Incredible Hulk is an entertaining watch. The characters are well drawn and extremely believable. The action scenes are stunning, as well as the interactions between Ross and the Hulk himself. Whether you like the television version or the comic book adaptation, there is a chance that you’ll enjoy watching the film. For those wanting a chance to see what all the hype is about, the film adaptation of the incredible Hulk is definitely worth seeing…
